All About Me: Socks & Shoes

We are studying “All About Me” and this week, we are focusing on the clothes we wear. Here are our daily topics for the week: Shirt, Pants, Underwear, Hat, Coat, Socks and Shoes. Let me tell you a bit about what we did on “socks and shoes” day!

We could not do a socks and shoes day without reading “Pete the Cat and his White Shoes”! After reading the story, we took a Pete the cat walk through some “strawberries” (red pain), through some blueberries (blue paint), through the mud (brown paint…or in my case some chocolate syrup since my paint supply is dangerously low), and through the water to wash off “all the red, all the blue, and all the brown”. If you haven’t read this book, it is adorable and a must have!

Each child was working on their own set of learning goals so for my youngest, I wrote lowercase letters for her to step on and say as she walked along, for one of our friends I wrote CVC words for him to practice as he walked along, and for the two oldest I wrote +2 facts that they are working on getting faster on!

Experience Early Learning added STEAM ideas for each day and today the kids worked on estimating and measuring out how many scoops of beans would fit in various sized socks. I put various sized scoopers out as well and questioned them whether it mattered if they used a big or small scoop.

Experience Early Learning provided the materials to make our own shoe art, complete with shoe laces!

We practiced our spelling words and letters in strawberry jelly (to go along with the Pete the Cat story).

That was it for today! If you want to read more about what we have done during our unit click here. If you are interested in learning more about Experience Early Learning thematic units, click here.
